I begin to write this post after seeing a podcast titled 'Is sleep necessary?' on my YouTube recommendation. It got me thinking of all the amazing things I’ve done sacrificing sleep. The one time (read yesterday) I went down the rabbit hole of watching hour-long documentaries about this crazy-ass psychedelic ritual in South America, read a whole book, the last-minute cramming I’ve done for at least 187 tests or been extremely productive by participating in the staring-at-the-wall-at-3am contest.
My Sleep schedule has been so beat up over the years, I function only in extremes. Its either deep sleep or none. I’ve slept through storms, earthquakes, people breaking into my house, and whatnot.
The night or ‘the only time your neighbor’s pressure cooker doesn’t go off’ as I call it has various phases.
The 10.00pm - 12.30am : Threshold period. If you’ve stayed up through this, you can stay up the whole night.
12.30-3 am: The Emo period. This time is an absolute no-no for platonic relationships. (Also, Don’t text your ex) . This is when most people are mad creative, so write poetry make art, put all the ‘feelings’ to use.
3-5 am: Hardcore insomniacs- All the existentialism in the world is in YOUR HEAD. You know you need to be sleeping. No, it’s not the time to think about the one day you made a witty joke. Also no, relating to Bojack horseman doesn’t make you self aware.
